20th October, 2018 Saturday
Well tea is Earled Honeyed Creamed and the day has been bright golden with layered smokey haze. There are fires burning South of us. But rain is coming so they say. Texas Sis and Her Magic Man Husband say their Austin is awash and could right float away but since they arrived yesterday their rain has stopped so they have picked up our dry and will gift us with their rain. We are truly grateful.
I came down this morning from the Roost to Texas Sis sitting at the kitchen table having coffee with the Bird who has so clearly won her heart. She was standing at the counter making coffee when she heard emmitting from the shrouded cage the ringing of a telephone. She laughed and went and unshrouded him and sat watching the day begin out in our spreading field and sure enough as light came up, Oldest and the Corgiette appeared down in the field on their way to waken up The Flock of Five and Thanksgiving and Christmas. When I came dow she was a bit spell bound with the Magic of this place which through her lovely eyes I am remembering.
I caught her and Magic Man so enjoying Harpo’s space a little later in the morning.
Well we did not take the Zoi to Market but we did Texas Sis and Magic Man. They enjoyed every bit. Booth by booth they found such gorgeous things. Kombucha first then our Meat CSA Lady who is so sweet who heaved me lovely ducks. Then onto our Beef Guy whose family has farmed beef here since grass was the only thing to feed. And when the world said, “Better beef happens feeding all this manufactured stuff, Beef Man’s family scoffed and just kept on feeding grass. Then to Farmer Sis and Her Farmer Husband Man whose vegetable booth was dripping with the glowing things their ground did gift for their lovely tending. Then onto cheeses, oh yes please, lovely lovely cheese for us. With apples? Oh yes please, so across the aisle to the apple stand where we found the most amazing apple ever found. Mountain Rose and it is unique to this amazing ground in between the two Volcanoes. And yellow skinned apple with rose coraled succulent flesh. Oh yes we do have to have a few of these to have with our amazing cheese. Then laden with heavy bags of all that gorgeous local bounty, we went back home to deposit all in freezers and/or larder depending on their needs and then set off for lunch along the River in a favorite spot.
There is a deck along the River East of that long metal narrow bridge with a lovely view of the River’s Gorge East where the land gets very dry. I love the transition for the wet wet clime to dry. You can see it change every foot of every mile as you ride the Eastern ribbon along the lovely Gorge. We lunched and talked and pondered whether Papa was a Spook, it certainly might have well been that for him, he would have been very very good at that. I am laughing as I think the phrase “My Papa was a Spook.”
My Papa who came home at night to my Mama’s circus house with kids and pets and all that friggin kitchen mess. I will go on about him at some point just not right now.
Lunch was good and we shot lots of hugging shots with the backdrop of the smokey Gorge. Then off to visit Oldest and the Winery she pours for.
The drive over bridge and east along the Washington side and then wind up and up the ridge to a plateau which sports such lovely land and into the little drive into the little shangri la which makes the finest wine around.
I am so very fond of them, they who made that place and all those who help them sustain it. They have embraced Oldest as their own and when she went to tell them of her lovely other job they cheered for her and said, “Well Done.” She loves them and they love her and I love them all for all of that.
So we watched while Magic Man enjoyed some wine and bought a case while Oldest told him all about the grapes. And then Husband, me, Texas Sis, and Magic Man and I all sat in the oh so lovely garden that astounds with all its lovely feathered grasses and textured flowers. And watched the Sun trail down on its way to later afternoon. And then home we went.
Now everybody’s sitting still before we enter dinner mode. SIL is coming back from many days immersed in forest on the Coast. He’ll be here for dinner after her cleans off the dirt of all those outside days. SIL needs wild and also warm and cozy home. He has had both in these last few days. I am so so very glad.
Its chicken cooking time. I am looking forward to the bones. I’ll let you know.
Ta.
